Renowned for his expertise in plastic and reconstructive surgery, hospital administration and education, Dr. Raymond L. Smith possesses over 50 years of medical experience. Since 2008, he has been affiliated with the Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center at Tower Health Reading Hospital, becoming its division chief in 2018. Concurrent with this role, he has served as an assistant professor of surgery at the Drexel University School of Medicine since 2022. Possessing comprehensive knowledge in plastic and reconstructive surgery, he worked as an active, full-time surgeon in Reading, Pennsylvania, between 1976 and 2004. During this time, Dr. Smith was a plastic surgery chief at Reading Hospital from 1994 to 2004 and at St. Joseph Hospital from 1985 to 1989, having been associated with the latter hospital between 1976 and 1997. Prior to delving into medicine, he served in the United States Air Force as a captain MC during the Vietnam era and in the Air Force Reserves. He also holds a Doctor of Medicine from the Temple University School of Medicine. Dr. Smith earned the 50 Years of Service Award from the Berks County Medical Society in 2016 and is a life member and fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
