Dr. Alan C. Hartford is revered for his expertise in neuro-oncology, pediatric oncology, connective tissue oncology and genitourinary oncology. A professor of radiation oncology at the University of Massachusetts Chan School of Medicine, he has concurrently served as the associate director of the Quality Assurance Review Center in the Imaging and Radiation Oncology Core of the National Cancer Institute’s National Clinical Trials Network. Throughout his career, Dr. Hartford has fulfilled several roles, particularly at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College, where he founded and directed the radiation oncology residency program and served as a professor of medicine. Likewise, he was the medical school’s interim chief of radiation oncology for over 10 years, among many other appointments. Formerly studying at Harvard University, he earned an MD and a PhD in political economy and government. He previously received a Bachelor of Science in biological sciences, with distinction, and a Master of Arts in philosophy from Stanford University. Dr. Bushnell has served on more than 20 scientific study sections and review panels of the National Institutes of Health-National Cancer Institute and co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications. Outside his primary career, he published his first novel, “The First Days of August,” in 2015 under the pen name Alan Froning.
