Dr. Allan P. Gold, NCSP is a retired school psychologist whose career spanned nearly five decades of service to the students and faculty of the Reed Union School District. Inspired by his father’s career as a teacher, Dr. Gold earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics with the goal of becoming a professor, but he was drafted into the United States Army Reserves before achieving this goal. While in the Army, he trained as a psychology social work specialist and developed an interest in working with youth while partnered with a Stanford school psychologist.
Dr. Gold joined Reed Union School District in 1976. As a district psychologist, he ran student support groups addressing common challenges including parental divorce, supporting a sibling with special needs, and navigating gender and sexuality in addition to working with students on an individual basis. He is proud to have helped reduce the stigma of seeking mental health support and was honored with numerous state and district-level awards. Dr. Gold holds a PhD in educational psychology from the University of California Berkeley, where he served as an adjunct professor from 1980 until 1987.
