Now retired, Allan P. Gold, PhD, NCSP, is a nationally-certified school psychologist who dedicated more than 47 years of his career to serving students and staff in the Reed Union School District. Inspired by his father, a teacher, Dr. Gold attended the University of California Berkeley, earning a Bachelor of Science in mathematics; however, he discovered a passion for psychology after training with a hospital social work unit while in the United States Army Reserves. He returned to the University of California for a second undergraduate degree in psychology, and in 1978, he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy in educational psychology. Dr. Gold joined the Reed Union School District as a district psychologist in 1976 and then spent nearly five decades providing group and individual counseling to students struggling with life changes and emotional needs and understanding their emerging identities. A beloved member of the school community and winner of two California Association of School Psychologists Outstanding School Psychologist Awards, Dr. Gold founded school equity and Genders & Sexualities Alliances groups and participated in school plays and other events. In addition to his work in K-8 education, Dr. Gold is a former adjunct professor at the University of California Berkeley, president of his synagogue and board chair of Being Adept.
