Carolyn Bordelon

Elementary School Educator (Retired) | Dublin City Schools

Carolyn G. VanAsdale Bordelon is a retired elementary educator and reading specialist who dedicated more than 40 years of her career to promoting literacy and the development of the teaching profession. She began her career in print journalism and found her passion for teaching after being recruited to fill a last-minute opening in a fourth grade classroom. She continued to teach at the elementary level for Marion City Schools throughout the 1960s and earned a Master of Education at Bowling Green State University in 1972. 

In 1978, Ms. Bordelon became a reading teacher for Marion City Schools, and in 1986 she again pivoted to focus on reading recovery. She began a ten-year tenure as a reading recovery specialist for Dublin City Schools in 1988, and remained a literacy specialist for Upper Arlington City Schools until her retirement in 2016. Throughout her career, Ms. Bordelon won numerous awards for her dedication to her students and community, and she considers the lives that she shaped to be her proudest accomplishment. She remains committed to developing the next generation of educators as a mentor and subject matter expert, and is the author of two books for young readers.

In 2026, Ms. Bordelon was selected for inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who of Industry Leaders in celebration of her long-standing professional excellence.
