Consultant Chemical Pathologist (Retired)
Combining his interest in biology and physics, with a passion for chemistry instilled in him by his father, a chemist, David Donaldson forged a career as a chemical pathologist and physician. After earning an MB and ChB from the University of Birmingham in 1959, he served as a house physician with Selly Oak Hospital before joining Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital as a clinical pathologist and house surgeon. Among his many roles, Dr. Donaldson provided his skills and expertise for Keighley and District Victoria Hospital, The Leeds Teaching Hospitals, and University College London. From 1970 to 2001, he served as a consultant of chemical pathology for Crawley Hospital and from 1984 to 2006, as a consultant for chemical pathology for Gatwick Park Bupa Health Centre. As the consultant for chemical pathology for East Surrey Hospital Redhill, he served as head of the organization and made important contacts with many people throughout his years. As a chemical pathologist, Dr. Donaldson specialized in studying electrolytes in water, sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphate, proteins, and vitamins for liver disorders and kidney issues. He has received the Five-Year Voluntary Long Service Award from the National Trust (2017), among many other accolades.
