David Suits, MSCE

Independent Consultant | LDS Geosynthetic Consultant Services

David Suits has cultivated a successful career spanning over five decades as an engineer, consultant and educator, culminating in his present role as an independent consultant with LDS Geosynthetic Consultant Services. Since 2016, he has lent his breadth of knowledge to clients in the fields of geosynthetics and geotechnical engineering, focusing his efforts on soils and geosynthetic training. Previously, he served as an adjunct professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the executive director of the North American Geosynthetics Society, having commenced his career in 1968 as a soils engineering laboratory supervisor for the Geotechnical Engineering Bureau of the New York State Department of Transportation. Remaining with the department for nearly four decades, he also oversaw the testing and acceptance of geosynthetic materials used in the department’s various projects. Mr. Suits earned the Award of Merit from ASTM International, an organization with which he held several leadership positions, and currently serves on the board of directors of the Geosynthetic Institute. He holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Clarkson University, is a certified PDH provider, and has contributed to more than 30 papers and articles in his industry.
