Dr. Deborah Ann Turner enjoyed a career spanning across three decades prior to her retirement in 2022, demonstrating expertise in gynecology, medical education and social advocacy. Diversified in several vocational paths, she served as an associate medical director at Planned Parenthood of North Central States, as well as in clinical faculty appointments at the University of Iowa, the Medical College of Wisconsin and the University of Nebraska. Likewise, she dedicated significant time to the League of Women Voters of the United States as its president, chair of the diversity, equity and inclusion committee, and member of the finance and governance committee. Recognized extensively for her prowess in medicine, women’s rights and civic service, Dr. Turner was honored with the Gertrude E. Rush Award from the National Bar Association, the Louise Rosenfield Noun Visionary Award from the Young Women’s Resource Center, and the Compassionate Caregiver of the Year Award from The Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare, citing the lattermost accolade as a career highlight. Spending much of her career as a board-certified gynecological oncologist, she holds a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Iowa.
