Dorothy “Dottie” Herman is the vice chair of Douglas Elliman, where she brings more than 35 years of real estate brokerage expertise. She began her career in the early 1990s with Merrill Lynch, rising to become regional manager for the company’s Northeast region, overseeing operations in New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and the Boston area. When Merrill Lynch exited the real estate sector, Ms. Herman purchased all of the company’s regional franchises, expanding into Long Island and establishing Douglas Elliman Real Estate in 2003. She served as CEO from its inception until 2018, when she moved into her current role.

As a real estate industry pioneer, Ms. Herman is a well-regarded keynote speaker and the host of two radio shows for AM970, “Real Talk” and “Eye on Real Estate.” She credits her success to her people-first approach and focus on loyalty and team building, a rarity in the industry, and looks forward to sharing her expertise with others in an upcoming book.
