Elizabeth Roulette Baseler, the retired director of the Clinical Monitoring Research Program at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR), is acclaimed for over 45 years of expertise in cancer and infectious disease clinical research. As a leader in clinical trial management and operations, Ms. Baseler maintained responsibility for directing a team in establishing clinical trial infrastructure and overseeing regulatory compliance for protecting human subjects in clinical trials conducted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Since retiring from her directorship in December 2022, she has served as a consultant to support special projects at the FNLCR and other projects. Impressively, Ms. Baseler traveled to over 30 countries during her tenure at FNLCR, culminating in her participation in the launch of clinical trials that contributed to the management of Ebola during the Ebola outbreak in West Africa in the mid-2010s and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2018. She was also actively involved in COVID-19 pandemic clinical trials. As a testament to her success, Ms. Baseler earned multiple Director Awards from the NIH and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. She holds a Master of Science in administration and management from Hood College with an undergraduate degree from McDaniel College. Looking ahead, she is involved in the McDaniel College Women’s Leadership Network and continues mentoring professional women in executive and STEM roles.
