Since 1975, Dr. Emily Moore has thrived as the founder and executive director of the Alliance Junior Tennis Development Program, through which she has introduced tennis to children and has leveraged the sport to encourage structure and discipline. Highly successful, the program has witnessed several students attend college with tennis scholarships. While pursuing this venture, Dr. Moore also served as a physical education teacher and a varsity boy’s and girl’s tennis coach at Ulysses Byas Elementary School until retiring from education in 2019. She was inducted into the Black Tennis Hall of Fame in 2019 and the 34th Annual Eastern Hall of Fame in 2021, exemplifying her aptitude for sportsmanship and teaching. Demonstrating versatility in her profession, Dr. Moore authored the poetry book “Just Like It Is” and contributed her expertise to civic endeavors as an ambassador for People to People. She earned a doctorate with honors from Morgan State University in 2015, having previously attended the academic institution for her bachelor’s degree in the mid-1960s. She also holds a master’s degree in education and counseling from Hofstra University and is certified in physical education for kindergarten through 12th grade in the State of New York.
