Gerald Lawson Gill

Mr. Gill is a professor emeritus and retired head of reference and government documents at James Madison University, where he spent more than 35 years as a librarian. He completed a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Georgia in 1971 and a Master of Arts in library science at the University of Wisconsin, graduating in 1973. Mr. Gill joined the staff at James Madison University in 1974 as an instructor and library cataloger and pursued additional postgraduate coursework in business administration through the school in 1978.
Mr. Gill rose to become an assistant professor in 1980, associate professor in 1990, and professor in 2002, and spent more than a decade managing the university’s reference collection as well as the American Library Association’s business reference section. During his career, Mr. Gill held numerous faculty leadership roles at James Madison University, and he was recognized for his work with honors including the American Library Association’s Gale Research Award for Excellence in Business Librarianship.
