Ikar Kalogjera is a triple-board certified psychiatrist. He is board-certified in psychiatry and child psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc., and board certified in addiction medicine. Raised in Croatia, He earned a Doctor of Medicine and completed a medical internship at the University of Zagreb before immigrating to the United States in 1972 to pursue a psychiatric residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin. After a two-year fellowship at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Kalogjera opened his private practice in 1976. He became director of the adolescent inpatient unit and director of adolescent inpatient service at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1979, before returning to private practice in 1981. He taught at the Medical College of Wisconsin as a professor from 2001 until 2020. Dr. Kalogjera’s treatment philosophy emphasized supporting patients through combined medication and talk therapies, family integration programs, and modernized inpatient settings. He is a founding fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy and a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Child Psychiatry, and has been the recipient of awards including the APA’s Irma Bland Award and the Medical College of Wisconsin Marvin Wagner Award.
