James V. Eade is the founder and chief executive officer of the Eade Foundation, a global nonprofit empowering underserved communities through donations of chess equipment and coaching. Established in 2019, the Eade Foundation sponsors annual scholarships for student chess enthusiasts, donates more than 500 chess sets annually, and is currently in the process of establishing chess academies in South Africa, Uganda, and Zambia. After beginning to play chess at age 15 with his father’s guidance, Mr. Eade quickly graduated to playing adult opponents and became a chess master only nine years later. He is a trustee and past president of the U.S. Chess Trust, an award-winning journalist and former president of the Chess Journalists of America, and the founder of Hypermodern Press. He has held leadership roles in numerous chess organizations, including the Chess Advisory Board, the World Chess Federation, and the United States Chess Federation. He was one of the organizers of the historic 1995 Pan-Pacific International Chess Tournament and the 1996 Hall of Fame Tournament. Mr. Eade is the author of several bestselling books, including “Chess For Dummies” and the upcoming “Freedom: Your Path to Recovery.”
