Jeffrey Z. Slavin

Mayor | Town of Somerset

Jeffrey Z. Slavin has proudly served the town of Somerset, Maryland as mayor since 2008. Building on a career in policy that spans more than five decades, Mr. Slavin is proud to have spearheaded an overhaul of the town’s governing committees, council, and board operations during his time in office. He holds a Juris Doctor from the Georgetown University Law Center and interned for the United States Department of Labor and Legal Counsel for the Elderly before becoming a staff assistant to D.C. Councilmember Hilda H.M. Mason.

In 1983 he was elected vice chair of the D.C. Human Rights Commission, where he would serve for the next five years. Through the 1990s, he found success running a real estate business before first holding Somerset office as a town council member in 2002. In his personal time, Mr. Slavin writes for the Somerset Town Journal and is active in philanthropy as the co-director of the Sanford and Doris Slavin Foundation and a member of the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Human Rights Commission of Montgomery County, among other appointments.
