Joan Karen Gaut

Music Educator | Make A Joyful Noise Music Studio

For more than three decades, Joan Gaut has shared her passion for music with others as a public school teacher and private music instructor. Ms. Gaut began singing in her village church choir at the age of three, and began studying flute and piano by the time she entered middle school. Despite her musical talent, Ms. Gaut felt called to become a medical missionary, and earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing at Chico State University before completing a public health nursing credential at Sacramento State University in 1966. Fluent in Spanish, Ms. Gaut worked in Mexico and spent two years as a school nurse before transitioning into the classroom as a music teacher for the Fairfield-Suisun School Board, where she taught for the next 30 years. After retiring from teaching full-time, Ms. Gaut remained a trustee of the Fairfield-Suisun School Board until 2020, and shifted her focus to private music lessons for students of all ages through her private studio, Make A Joyful Noise. Ms. Gaut has been a foster parent to seven children, and has been active in fundraising and advocacy for arts education throughout her career.
