Dr. Muir is a clinical psychologist at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and the executive director of the Brief Strategic Family Therapy Institute. After reading a book on play therapy as a teenager, Dr. Muir was inspired to pursue psychology as a career and developed an interest in working with families and children. She earned her Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in clinical psychology at Fordham University and completed additional fellowships at Yale and Columbia University before joining the University of Miami as a research professor in 1998. At the Brief Strategic Family Therapy Institute, Dr. Muir has helped develop therapeutic models for intervention in youth with substance use and behavioral issues that have been adopted by Maria Ungdom, a Swedish treatment facility. Dr. Muir is a minority research fellow of the National Institutes of Mental Health and a nationally-recognized speaker on youth and families. She looks forward to continuing her work and continuing to build a practice accessible to all patients regardless of financial status.
Dr. Muir shares insights from her background and future plans in the ninth edition of Marquis Millennium Magazine.
