Joseph P. Babits is a retired attorney whose career spanned nearly 35 years of practice and two decades as associate counsel for U.S. securities for Shell USA, Inc. He holds an MBA in finance and investments from The George Washington University and was awarded a Juris Doctor by George Mason Law School in 1991.

Between 1991 and 2005, Mr. Babits served as special counsel in the United States Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) department of corporate finance, where his duties included interpreting and reviewing filings and assisting in rulemaking. He looks back on his time with the SEC as one of his proudest achievements and considers it a fundamental part of his career development. In 2005, he joined Shell, bringing his knowledge of American securities law to the company’s holdings in the UK and the Netherlands to ensure compliance. Outside his work in finance, Mr. Babits maintains an interest in politics and ran for office in 2024.
