Julia Davis Rhodes, RN

Team Leader of Neurosurgery (Retired) | Athens Regional Medical Center

Julia Davis Rhodes amassed more than 40 years of professional experience in neurosurgical nursing prior to her retirement in 2003. Serving at the Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, Georgia, beginning in 1965, she thrived in numerous leadership capacities, such as a team leader of neurosurgery, a surgical assistant of general and obstetric surgery, and a registered nurse. Among her myriad of responsibilities, she has been well-regarded for assisting physicians in the operating room, as well as maintaining the inventory of the medical center’s equipment and supplies. To attest to her selfless service at the medical center, she affectionately earned the nickname “The General” in the operating room. Previously, she served as an operating room nurse at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta from 1964 to 1965, where she also earned a diploma in nursing. Following her retirement, Ms. Rhodes has lent her breadth of knowledge to her community as a part-time nurse, where she has treated six patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Furthermore, she is a staunch supporter of charities that advocate for animal rights and veterans’ rights. In light of her resounding success, Ms. Rhodes abides by the motto, “No matter where you come from, you can accomplish something great.”
