Ms. Froiland-Deck is a retired oncology nurse educator who dedicated 40 years of her career to teaching and clinical education. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Olaf College and began her career as a staff nurse at the University of Minnesota, the Mayo Clinic Foundation, and other Minneapolis-area clinics. In 1991 she relocated to Texas and joined the staff at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she would spend the next decade as a senior nursing instructor and wound ostomy continence nurse before becoming the director of the hospital’s wound ostomy continence nurse education program. Ms. Froiland-Deck earned her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Texas in 1994. She became an oncology clinical nurse educator for GSK Oncology in 2003, and remained with the company until her retirement in 2020. In recognition of her compassion, community-building skills, and professional excellence, Ms. Froiland-Deck was named 2001 WOCN of the Year and presented a Class of 2000 gynecologic oncology fellows award from MD Anderson, among other honors. She is a longtime volunteer for the American Cancer Society in Texas.
