Lois M. McClurg is a retired clinical social worker who dedicated two decades of her career to providing grief counseling to patients and families at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice. She says that the hospice “helps patients and families make the most of their loved ones’ last experience. It shows families how to say goodbye, achieve comfort and end life on a positive, healthy note.” Prior, she excelled in administrative roles for Motorola, Sparton Electronics and Red Carpet Keim Santi Realty. In 2000, she received a breast cancer diagnosis that inspired her to pivot to social work to serve cancer patients and their families. She earned an associate degree in social work from Jackson Community College and a Bachelor of Social Work from Spring Arbor University, graduating magna cum laude. She found her passion in grief counseling after completing an undergraduate internship in a hospice. Subsequently, she began working with Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice in 2003. She also received a Master of Social Work from Michigan State University, and in 2012, became a licensed clinical social worker. An advocate for the profession, including leading a monthly resource group for social workers, she has earned awards for her dedication and outstanding service.
