Marion Priscilla Short, MD

Clinical Neurogeneticist & Neurogenetics Educator

Dr. Short is a board-certified clinical neurogeneticist and educator celebrating more than 30 years of leadership in her specialty. She is best known for her work in identifying and diagnosing rare neurogenetic disorders, including identifying new diagnostic subsets of neurofibromatosis. She earned her Doctor of Medicine at the Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1978 after completing undergraduate degrees at the University of Edinburgh and Bryn Mawr College, and was awarded fellowships in medical genetics and neurology at Mount Sinai Medical Center and Massachusetts General Hospital during the 1980s. From 1990 until 1995, Dr. Short was an assistant professor of neurology at Harvard University and an assistant neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital. She joined the faculty of the University of Chicago in 1995, rising from assistant professor to clinical associate of pediatric neurosurgery by 2000, and was named a senior fellow of the McLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics in 2003. From 1997 until 2002, Dr. Short served as director of the American Medical Association Office of Science and its Genetics, Transplantation, and Clinical Research programs. Dr. Short is a fellow of the Institute of Medicine and the recipient of a National Institutes of Health award.
