Dr. Martin Wächtler, an internist and infectiologist for the City of Munich in Germany, is recognized for his decades of expertise in internal and public health. Active at the Health Department of the City of Munich since 2020, he has specialized in infectious diseases, internal medicine and hepatology, particularly within the study and treatment of HIV. Notably, he contributed to the research of HIV/AIDS during the emergence of the AIDS crisis in Europe, publishing an article in the journal Infection in October 2000. Practicing medicine and teaching extensively, he is proud of witnessing his students excel in the classroom and medical environments. Dr. Wächtler commenced his career in 1988 and served in prominent roles at the Academic Teaching Hospital of the University of Munich and the Technical University of Munich, as well as the Clinic for Hematology, Oncology, Immunology, Palliative Medicine, Infectiology and Tropical Medicine in Munich City Hospital. He earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Frankfurt in 1984 and received certifications in hepatology in 2008 and 2017. Publishing several articles on infectious diseases and hepatology in scientific journals, including “AIDS: Major Opportunistic Infections” in 2014, he also contributed to the Retroviren Bulletin of the National Reference Center for Retroviruses at the Max von Pettenkofer Institute of the University of Munich.
