Specializing in library services, Melanie L. Freese has accrued more than 50 years’ experience in academia, culminating in her present role as an associate professor of library services at Hofstra University. Joining the university in 1984, she served as a senior catalog librarian until 1999, when she became an assistant dean and chair of technical services for the Joan and Donald E. Axinn Library between 1999 and 2001. In her professorship since 1990, Ms. Freese has been responsible for cataloging, classifying, and managing educational resources for Hofstra University’s curriculum materials centers. Earlier in her career, she was an elementary school teacher in Roosevelt, New York, from 1967 to 1968 and taught at Grace Episcopal Day School in Massapequa, New York, from 1969 to 1970. She also served as a reserve librarian at the Swirbul Library at Adelphi University, where she worked between 1972 and 1983. Equally dedicated to civic advocacy, Ms. Freese contributes to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Baldwin, New York, and helped establish the library at the Wayside Home School for Girls. She holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in elementary education from Hofstra University and a Master of Library Sciences from Long Island University Post.
