Michael D. Grogan celebrates more than 40 years of service in law enforcement and the armed forces, including a 22-year career in the United States Army and Coast Guard. Since 2012, he has been a deputy sheriff for the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, building on his three decades as captain of police for the city of Millbrae, California. Raised in a family with a strong tradition of military service, he entered the police academy at the age of 19 and enlisted in the United States Coast Guard at the age of 34 as a special agent. After 9/11, he became one of the branch’s first sea marshals, and in 2004 he joined the United States Army as a special agent in its criminal investigation division. 

Mr. Grogan is heavily decorated for his service, which included deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. In recent years, he has published his memoirs, “Grogan’s Story: 40 Years A Cop and Soldier”“ and is involved in “The Overwatch Collective,” a podcast and nonprofit focused on mental health support for veterans and first responders.
