Nasreen Haroon is an artist, educator and diplomat celebrating decades of distinction in her field. Born in Pakistan, she began painting after receiving lessons as a Catholic school student, and in 1972, she completed a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, philosophy and history at St. Joseph’s College in Karachi. After relocating to the United States in 1980, she worked as a design consultant for the Shangri-La Hotel and emphasized community outreach as a speaker on topics in cultural, ethnic and religious diversity. She has taught master classes worldwide, lectured at the Ecole de Beaux Arts in Algiers and served proudly as a cultural envoy to Algeria and the United Arab Emirates, including workshops for children, women and families and an appearance on “Bonjour Algerie.” Ms. Haroon’s paintings have been on display in the Art in Embassies program and numerous group and solo shows, and she is the recipient of honors, including a 2023 Distinguished Artist Award from the Pacific Asia Museum and a NewGround Trailblazer Award. Ms. Haroon has held leadership roles for the Islamic Center of Southern California, the Pacific Asia Museum and more, and continues to make regular media appearances.
