Dr. Richard Ferrell, an associate professor of psychiatry at the Geisel School of Medicine of Dartmouth College, is well-regarded for his clinical, academic and scholarly expertise. Dedicating nearly 50 years to the clinical practice of psychiatry, he has devoted his time to preclinical medical education since 2017 and notably developed and delivered the course “The History of the Field of Medicine” in 2022. Earlier in his career, Dr. Ferrell served as an associate professor of psychiatry and an assistant professor of psychiatry, having joined the faculty at the Geisel School of Medicine in 1975. During his professorships, he lent his considerable knowledge to various scholarly works published in professional journals and performed volunteer medical work in Papua New Guinea, Ukraine and Honduras. Impressively, he has been recognized with several accolades for his tenures in psychiatry and education, including honors as a Best Doctor. Adjacent to his professional work, Dr. Ferrell has served as an elected councilor for the American Neuropsychiatric Association and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. He also served as a girls’ basketball coach for the Hanover Recreation Department for nearly three decades. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from DePauw University and a Doctor of Medicine from Indiana University.
