Mr. Runyon is a retired investigator and senior analyst for the United States Food and Drug Administration, where he worked from 2000 until his retirement in 2014. Mr. Runyon’s career highlights include handling risk management, food, and interstate travel cases for the FDA including international investigations of melamine-contaminated pet food and work on Mexican petrochemical plants with NUS. He realized his interest in science while completing a criminal justice degree at California State University, and returned to Cal Poly Humboldt, earning a K-12 teaching credential along with his Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science in biology. Mr. Runyon began his career as a biology instructor at the College of the Redwoods and Allan Hancock College before becoming an environmental health specialist for Santa Barbara County and working as a facilities coordinator for Lockheed Space Operations Command. Prior to joining the Food and Drug Administration, Mr. Runyon spent more than a decade as a senior scientist for Halliburton NUS and held an adjunct faculty position at Chapman University. He credits his success to perseverance, flexibility, and a passion for travel, and continues to provide community education on his topics of specialty.
