Dr. Rob Moir, the executive director of the Ocean River Institute, is an environmental steward who has been pivotal in passing environmentally friendly legislation in the United States. Co-founding the Ocean River Institute in 2007 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, he collaborates with organizations and other environmental conservation advocates. As such, he was instrumental in passing the Massachusetts Ocean Planning Act and the Massachusetts 2050 Decarbonization Roadmap. Likewise, Dr. Moir was the founding chair of the board of Ocean Champions in 2003, having served past appointments as a curator of natural history at the Peabody Essex Museum, an assistant scientist with the Sea Education Association in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, and a member representing the advisory council of Boston Harbor Island’s NPS Partnership. Dr. Moir advocates for two carbon offset funds, the Slow Water Fund and the Let Forests Grow Fund. He is championing the Right Whale National Marine Sanctuary, 6,500 square miles of ocean from Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary around Cape Cod to Block Island. This is where right whales come to break their fast every spring. Dr. Moir holds a Doctor of Philosophy in environmental studies from Antioch University and certificates from the Marine Biological Laboratory and the USC Wrigley Marine Science Center.
