Dr. Roger Austin Newell – a distinguished geologist, mining executive and consultant – has amassed nearly five decades of experience in the science sector. Serving as a geology consultant since 2016, he previously spent time with such companies as Midway Gold Inc., Lake Victoria Mining Co., Capital Gold Inc. and Western Exploration Inc. Earlier in his career, he served with Gold Fields Mining Co., Newmont Exploration Ltd. and Kennecott Exploration Ltd. Impressively, he is a 50-year member of the Society of Mining Engineers, holding additional affiliations with the Geological Society of America and the Society of Economic Geologists, both of which recognize Dr. Newell as a fellow. Among his many vocational milestones, Dr. Newell cites his participation as a consultant on a gold project in Southeastern Arizona, titled “Mexican Hat,” and his development of the El Chanate Gold Mine in Sonora, Mexico, as crowning achievements. He previously earned a Doctor of Philosophy from Stanford University in 1975 after becoming a Henry DeWitt Smith Scholar, as well as a Master of Science from the Colorado School of Mines and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Oregon. Dr. Newell has been the director of the National Mining Hall of Fame since 2009.
