Dr. Rory A. Palmieri, an expert in world languages, literature and cinema, has found success as a self-employed translator for literary and scholarly works since 1999. Working extensively for the U.S. Department of Defense, he served as a translator and reporter between 1985 and 1999, during which time, he delved into top-secret assignments to craft reports based on collected international materials that were of interest to the U.S. government. He boasts mastery in 17 languages – including German, Bulgarian, Old English, French, Italian and Albanian, among others – that have bolstered his comprehension of the intersection of society and culture. Prior, he served in academia at Brown University, worked as a manager in the court reporting firm ACME in Washington, D.C., and worked on projects for the Books for the Blind department at the Library of Congress. An amateur filmmaker, he directed a horror short titled “Redneck” in 1972, a feature-length documentary titled “The Poets from Planet X” in 1995 and a short-form comedy titled “Dick’s Last Shoot” in 1996. He holds a master’s degree and a PhD in English language and literature from Brown University and a BA in English language and literature, magna cum laude, from Harvard University. He is currently finishing the first book in English about the great Hungarian film director, Miklós Jancsó.
