Steven R. Federman, PhD

Professor Emeritus | University of Toledo

Dr. Steven R. Federman amassed more than 45 years of excellence in the fields of academia, astrophysics and research prior to his retirement in 2018. Serving as a faculty member at the University of Toledo for three decades, he joined the university in 1988 as an assistant professor in the department of physics and astronomy, then was promoted to associate professor and, subsequently, full professor. Upon his retirement, he was named professor emeritus. Earlier in his career, he served as a National Research Council associate and technical staff member at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, between 1983 and 1988, having formerly served as a lecturer and postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas at Austin and a postdoctoral fellow at New York University. At the inception of his career, he was a senior research technician at the Hospital for Special Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine. Impressively, he is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Physical Society, a senior member of Optica, the past president of Commission 14 of the International Astronomical Union, and a past chair of the Laboratory Astrophysics Division of the American Astronomical Society. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy from New York University.
