Dr. Kavaler-Adler is a clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst with more than 45 years of private practice experience, and the co-founder and executive director of The Object Relations institute for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, where she had held leadership roles since 1991. Inspired by her natural empathy and formative experiences with grief following the early passing of her father, Dr. Kavaler-Adler earned her Doctor of Philosophy in clinical psychology from Adelphi University, and has trained in psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, and dance therapy. She began her career at Beth Israel Hospital and the Manhattan Psychiatric Children’s Center before beginning her private practice in 1975, and she continues to specialize in grief, separation and self-image, and creative process work in addition to group and relationship therapy. Dr. Kavaler-Adler has authored more than 70 articles and several books, and is the recipient of eleven book awards, a 2004 Gradiva Award, and four Arlene Wohlberg Memorial Awards, among other honors. She has been a member of faculty at the Postgraduate Psychoanalytic Society and Institute since 1981, and has consulted and led trainings for several other institutions.
