Vincent J. Tomeo

Teacher (Retired) | Francis Lewis High School

Leveraging more than 40 years’ professional experience, Vincent J. Tomeo is a retired educator who specialized in history education at Francis Lewis High School. During his tenure, he taught five classes per day, exhibiting his widespread passion for education. He enjoyed imparting his profound knowledge to students on a daily basis, through which he has been notable for inspiring young minds and helping students realize the significance of social studies. Earlier in his career, he served in the same capacity at Grover Cleveland High School, Boys and Girls High School, and Juan Marau Junior High School. He also worked as an archivist in the City of New York Hall of Records. In preparation for his career, Mr. Tomeo pursued his own advanced education, ultimately receiving a Master of Science in education and social studies from CUNY Queens College. Congruent to his vocational passion, he is an accomplished poet and author, having penned over 1,000 pieces in magazines and his 2023 book, “The Usefulness of Hippopotamus: A Humorous Chapbook for Trying Times.” To attest to his success, he has won over 105 literary awards, including the New York State Senior Poet Laureate Award from the Angels Without Wings Foundation in 2004.
